  126.         Boston Univ. Medical Center: Community Outreach Health
  127.                 Information System
  128.                 The Boston University Medical Center is proud to
  129.                 introduce the World Wide Web central health promotion and
  130.                 disease prevention resource center, the Community
  131.                 Outreach Health Information System (COHIS). The COHIS
  132.                 organization is a volunteer, non-profit student
  133.                 organization at the BU Medical Center started back in
  134.                 March 1995. There are approx. 125 student members as well
  135.                 as physicians, faculty and other departmental figures at
  136.                 BU Medical Center. There are 11 subcommittees which keep
  137.                 up to date with the medical information to keep you up to
  138.                 date. There is also a team that goes out into the
  139.                 communities to educate people on how to use the Web and
  140.                 the COHIS system. Access to the system is provided by
  141.                 local community centers, schools and libraries in and
  142.                 around Boston.

  145.                   1. 11 health topics: AIDS/HIV, Alcohol and Substance
  146.                  Abuse, Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases, Environmental
  147.                  Hazards, Infectious Diseases, Nutrition, Partner
  148.                  Violence, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Smoking and
  149.                  Tobacco Abuse, and Teen Pregnancy/Maternal & Neonatal
  150.                  Health.

  152.                  The information provided is very easy to read and
  153.                  understand. It is well organized by making use of the
  154.                  most most current HTML extensions. It uses compact
  155.                  graphics to convey information and you'll also find use
  156.                  of medical images provided by physicians and specialty
  157.                  departments of BUMC.

  159.                   2. An on-line Journal of Community Health: For topics that
  160.                  we didn't cover as an entire site, they are talked about
  161.                  in this journal, where the articles are written by
  162.                  medical students and physicians for the general public
  163.                  to read and understand. For example, International
  164.                  Travel and Health, Osteoporosis, Medicare and Medicaid
  165.                  etc.

  167.                   3. COHIS Kid's Corner: This section makes use of mascots
  168.                  and cartoons to deliver health information to kids. The
  169.                  information includes second hand smoke, lead poisoning,
  170.                  excessive sun exposure etc. It also provides for a
  171.                  forum/bulletin board for kids to use to communicate with
  172.                  each other.

  174.                   4. Physician On-Line Bulletin Board System: if you have any
  175.                  health related question, ask the medical students and
  176.                  physicians of BUMC. The message is anonymously posted on
  177.                  the bulletin board and then is replied to not only by
  178.                  the staff here at the center, but also other users of
  179.                  the system.

  181.                   5. Patient Case Records: read first hand patient case
  182.                  records for each of our 11 topics which are introduced
  183.                  on the system after our teams interview patients at the
  184.                  associated hospitals.

  186.                   6. HealthSource: if you are tired and sick of searching for
  187.                  a health topic using search engines, use this
  188.                  comprehensive, well organized part of the system to find
  189.                  health resources on the net. Each site is reviewed by
  190.                  our teams before it is added so you don't get access to
  191.                  useless information. There are also links to sites in
  192.                  different languages, spanish, french, german etc.

  194.                   7. VRMed: The site provides medical VRML models of all
  195.                  kinds for you to enjoy and explore.

  227.                  Yahoo has released a great new site called Yahooligans!
  228.                  Yahooligans! is a searchable, browsable index of the
  229.                  Internet designed for Web surfers ages 8 to 14.
  230.                  Everything is the same, but the theme has changed and
  231.                  it's somewhere you can let your kids go off to for a
  232.                  good time without worrying about some of the content out
  233.                  there.

  240.                  A camp for boys 10-17, Camp Voyageur has operated since
  241.                  1951 on Farm Lake, on the edge of the Boundary Waters
  242.                  Canoe Area Wilderness of northern Minnesota and Qutico
